Music videos have become a dime a dozen- often thrown out into the slightly scary and infinite Internet wilderness never to be seen again. Community record label Home Alone Music decided to celebrate the release of Wellington dream-folk duo French for Rabbits new song Goat and its corresponding video into this wilderness, with a well-wishing party at Wellington book lover’s treasure trove, Pegasus Books.

On the back of these well-wishes the video and song will be available online from Monday 10th June. Goat, which was premiered in late May on BBC 6 in the UK, is the first new material from the duo since their 2012 EP release Claimed by the Sea. The slow-burning song is a lament on stubbornness and being sorry. It was recorded in Wellington’s Blue Barn studio with producer David Parker of Little Monster Studio with the help of NZonAIR funding.

The video was filmed over three days at Ngawi on Wairarapa’s rugged coastline- an adventure involving breaking into key-less holiday homes, traipsing through graveyards of sheep-bones, ribbons in trees, and a few million mosquitos. It was directed by Wellington-based film-photographer Misma Andrews, in her first foray into the ‘moving picture’ world. In collaboration with Ready! Steady! Studios she has created a video reminiscent of her dark and dreamy portraits; inspired by wild, untamed landscapes and ritual acts of atonement.

The song will be available for a limited time as a ‘pay what you like’ download on French for Rabbits Bandcamp. Later in June and July the duo will be performing 4 concerts in Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington before the head to Europe to swan around in France and play shows in the UK.
