Fraser Ross joins Home Alone, announces album ‘Mongrels’.

Wellington’s preeminent eccentric-folk musician Fraser Ross is heading out on his first national tour in New Zealand, in support of his debut LP, Mongrels. Released on July 1st, it is coming out via Wellington musical collective, Home Alone Music.

Having spent the past two years based in Glasgow, touring Europe and the UK, and capping his time off there with a two-week run of music/comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he has now returned to New Zealand at the bequest of his old band-mates in Wellington’s whitest Jamaican dance-band; Newtown Rocksteady.

After nearly three years away from his friends, and bandmates, a ticket was purchased for him so that he could join them for their 2015 summer tour. And, while on tour a wager was made (Newtown Rocksteady get 1,000 likes in a week), that lead him to postponing his return ticket until after this winter. So here he comes… making the most of it.

He will be joined by two members of the Rocksteady on tour; the deft musicianship of multi-instrumentalist, Jeremy Desmond, and the idiot-savant-ish ramblings of raconteur, Deano Shirriffs.

The tour spans the country from Auckland to Queenstown, and for select shows he will be joined by notable dream-folk duo, French for Rabbits, who are making inroads internationally, and who he recently joined for their European tour  in 2014.

French for Rabbits Summer Tour

Even the best summers seem like distant dreams when winter comes – rose tinted and faded like old photographs. Wellington dream-pop duo French for Rabbits will be touring New Zealand this January and February for a combination of a twelve-concert tour and summer swims through the cities and smaller places of the North and South.

This will be the second New Zealand summer tour for French for Rabbits bookending a year spent recording their debut album (due out in 2014) and touring through Europe for the first time. The successful tour took them across the continent performing nearly fifty shows through the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and France.

For this tour, they will be joined at a number of the shows by their new band, with Hikurangi Scheverin-Kaa (City oh Sigh) on drums, and Ben Wood (Trinity Roots, Newtown Rocksteady) playing bass and singing harmonies.

A note: if you enjoy slightly odd, sometimes witty banter and/or nostalgia-laced songs, melancholic dreamscapes and mesmerizing songsmithery – please come

“What can I say? I am grateful to have discovered the immediately soothing and gorgeous music of French for Rabbits. French for Rabbits is a dream folk duo from New Zealand. Vocals, music, powerful enough to cast a dreamy hold of you from head to toe. If you are looking for something new to listen to these days, this is it.”… (loudvine.com)
