re:ruby (pronounced ‘regarding Ruby’) is the solo recording project of Ruby Hawthorne. Currently based in Pōneke, Ruby draws heavily from their upbringing amongst the DIY scene in Ōtepoti through their intricate and contemplative songwriting. Primarily writing songs influenced by indie folk and singer-songwriter acts, their interest in alternative and experimental production styles often transports these to new, textural soundscapes.
When live, they perform as a self-proclaimed “five-piece of friends”, arranging the songs into a louder, more energetic context while still maintaining the reflective nature of the songs themselves.
